Organic Maps

Organic Maps is a community-developed, privacy-focused and offline navigation app. This app has the main features of no location tracking and no data collection. The map data is downloaded to the phone so search, routing, and navigation can operate without a cell phone signal, ideal for travel to locations with poor connections (hikes, remote roads). Organic Maps uses the crowdsourced map data from OpenStreetMap. The app is free and open-source software, with priority for community development and collaboration.

OpenStreetMap Data

Organic Maps works collaboratively with OpenStreetMap, providing an in-app editor to update the map, and using the OpenStreetMap map data contributed by the community. By integrating with OpenStreetMap, Organic Maps ensures users have access to navigation information which is used by hundreds of applications, and have the opportunity to update maps with changes in roads, addresses, businesses, landmarks, etc.

History

Organic Maps was created by the founders of Maps.Me. In 2011 MapsWithMe (later renamed to Maps.Me) was founded. In September 2015 the source-code of the app was released as open-source. In 2021, Alexander Borsuk and Viktor Govako forked Maps.Me to create a privacy focused, faster and simplified navigation app - Organic Maps was born. The first public release of Organic Maps became available in the app stores in August 2021.
