Søren Sveistrup


Søren Sveistrup (born 7 January 1968 in Kastrup) is a Danish screenwriter and author. His credits include The Killing and Nikolaj og Julie. His first novel, The Chestnut Man, was published in 2019 and adapted into a television series, The Chestnut Man, in 2021.

Sveistrup is considered a "household name" in Scandinavia.

Biography

Sveistrup was adopted as a baby, which he learned when he was 13. He grew up on Thurø, a small island in the south-east of Funen. His adoptive parents were both teachers; his adoptive mother killed herself when he was 21.

He studied history and literature at the University of Copenhagen, followed by screenwriting at the National Film School of Denmark in 1997.

Sveistrup is married to a journalist and has two sons.
