Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot (also simply known as Possum Trot) is a 2024 American drama film directed by Joshua Weigel, and co-written by Rebekah Weigel. Actress and activist Letitia Wright serves as executive producer.
Inspired by a true story, the film follows Donna & Reverend Martin of Possum Trot, Texas as they ignite a fire in the hearts of their rural church to embrace kids in foster care that no one else would take in. By doing the impossible --adopting 77 children-- this East Texas community proved that with determined love, the battle for America's most vulnerable can be won.
Filming took place in Macon, Georgia in the fall of 2022, with a budget of $8.5 million. In February 2024, it was announced that Angel Studios acquired North American distribution rights to the film, adding the title Sound of Hope, to suggest a relation to the previous year's financially successful Sound of Freedom.
On review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, 79% of 28 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 7.2 out of 10. Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film a rare average grade of "A+" on an A+ to F scale.
