When appearing at the left side of a Chinese character, it usually transforms into 亻.

In the Kangxi Dictionary, there are 794 characters (out of 49,030) to be found under this radical.

人 is also the 12th indexing component in the Table of Indexing Chinese Character Components predominantly adopted by Simplified Chinese dictionaries published in mainland China. Two associated indexing components, 亻 and 入 (formerly Radical 11), are affiliated to the principle indexing component 人.
