Overseas Malays

Overseas Malays

Overseas Malays refers to individuals with Malay race ancestry (inc. Javanese, Minangkabau, Baweanese, Bugis, Batak, Banjarese, Acehnese and even Orang Laut) living outside of Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. Singapore, parts of Myanmar, East Timor, the Philippines and Southern Thailand are not considered to be Malay countries at present time, due to geopolitical reasons. Albeit being an overseas community, this does not change the fact that they are still a part of the Malay archipelago, and share common ancestral and historical ties together.
